Overview
The University of Connecticut uses an online portal, HireRight, to complete and retain the Form I-9 electronically for all employees. As of November 1, 2024, new paper I-9s are no longer accepted and all new I-9s must be completed directly through the electronic workflow in HireRight. While I-9s are completed electronically, it does not negate the federal requirement to review original verification documents in person with employees.
Training
- HireRight training is required for all employees who regularly complete I-9s for their departments or for employees who serve as department back-up for this functionality.
- Training is generally scheduled monthly in SABA and lasts approximately 90 minutes.
- User access is not granted until an employee has attended HireRight training in its entirety.
- Training is not required for employees who simply need to complete Section 1 of the Form I-9 as part of their onboarding process.
HireRight Access
- HireRight users are assigned to specific departments known as Worksites in HireRight. This allows the user to access all employee profiles that have been assigned to the same Worksite.
- A HireRight user can be granted access to multiple Worksites to meet departmental business needs.
- Given the sensitive nature of the data required for Form I-9, HireRight user access is only granted once approved by the department via the HireRight Access Request Form.
- UConn affiliates and students (undergraduate and graduate) are not authorized to receive access to HireRight.
Refer to Requesting HireRight Access for additional instructions.
